DELAND, Fla.- The DeLand Suns surrendered eleven unanswered runs on Friday night, and fell 13-4 to the Winter Garden Squeeze at Melching Field. The game was moved to Melching Field from Lake Minneola High School due to the field conditions in Minneola, and served as the final home game of the season for the Squeeze.

Both teams scored four runs in the first three innings of the contest, with DeLand scoring one in the first, two in the second, and one more in the third. A double steal allowed Joe McNamara (Winthrop) to score in the first inning, while a double from Joe Burke (Kentucky Wesleyan) and a single from Peter Hutzal (Marshall) supplied the scoring in the second. The one run in the third inning was recorded by Rodrigo Montenegro (St. Pete College), who drove in Alan Alonso (Mount Olive) with a single.

Winter Garden's four runs in the opening three innings started with an RBI single in the first from Bryce Jackson (Clarion). Justin Holmes (Seminole State) drove in the second run of the game with a single in the second inning, and the runs in the third to tie the game came on a two-run single from Brenden Frese (Erskine).

The offensive surge from the Squeeze started in the bottom of the sixth inning, as Holmes hit an inside-the-park home run. Winter Garden followed that up with a seven-run seventh inning, which was led by a two-run triple from Ethan Brant (West Georgia) and a three-run home run from Bobby Head (Austin Peay). Another run was scored in the eighth inning on an RBI double from Head.

Matthew Nicholas (Texas State) pitched the final 7.2 innings of the game for Winter Garden, striking out 13 DeLand hitters to pick up the victory. Four Squeeze hitters picked up at least three hits in the victory, with four hits from Wesley Faison (Texas State) leading the way. Head was the leading run producer with four runs batted in.

Montenegro and Burke each had two hits in the losing effort for the Suns, with both players driving in one run in the first three innings. The other three DeLand hits were provided by Brandon Hylton (Stetson), McNamara, and Hutzal. Hylton and Burke had the only extra base hits, while McNamara reached base three times, as the Winthrop Eagle drew a pair of walks.

The final game of the regular season is scheduled for Saturday night at Melching Field, as the Squeeze and the Suns will play the rubber match of their three-game series. Both teams are locked into their spots in the Florida League standings, with the Suns awaiting an opponent on Tuesday in the FCSL Semifinals. First pitch in DeLand is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
