Hough Voted to Broadcast All-Star Game

NEWPORT R.I. – On Tuesday, July 23rd, the NECBL announced that Newport Gulls Broadcaster Stephen Hough would be one of the two broadcasters to call the 2019 NECBL All-Star Game hosted by the Vermont Mountaineers. Hough will be joined in the booth by Sanford’s Ryan Zimmerman. The broadcasters were chosen through a vote by their respected divisions' broadcasters and general managers.

Hough, an Omaha, Nebraska native, recently graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the spring. Although this is Hough’s first summer in Newport and in the NECBL, he has had prior experience in summer collegiate baseball. In 2017, Hough spent the summer working for the Boulder Collegians of the Rocky Mountain Baseball League where he served as the voice of the Collegians. Hough also broadcasted at the University of Nebraska, where he did play-by-play and color commentary for BTN+. In his time there he covered almost every sport for the Huskers, including baseball, softball, basketball, and soccer for the Big Ten Network, while also covering Husker football for 90.3 KRNU. To add to an already impressive resume, Hough also had two radio shows for a combined 2-1/2 years.

This is the fourth time a broadcaster from Newport is being sent to the All-Star Game. The first Gulls broadcaster to be chosen for an All-Star Game was longtime Gulls broadcaster, Nick Lima, who was selected first in 2009 and also selected in 2010. Also included on the list is Darren Zaslau who represented the Gulls in the 2017 All-Star Game. The NECBL began broadcasting league-wide with audio only in 2005 and with video in 2006.
