Bats go silent in loss to Deland, 3-0

WINTER PARK, Fla.- The Diamond Dawgs bats were silenced on Monday night, as the Deland Suns used two home runs and dominant pitching to shut out Winter Park 3-0. Tate Stone-Frisina (Rollins) turned in another quality outing for the Dawgs (5IP, 2R, 3K), but once again did not receive any run support. Frisina’s record now drops to 0-3 on the season with all three losses coming against DeLand.

The Dawgs offense sputtered out of the gate, as DeLand struck twice in the first four innings with two big flies off the bats of Mark Townsend and Alan Alonso to take a 2-0 lead. Winter Park was unable to manufacture anything though as the lone bright spot for the Winter Park offense came from Daniel Carinci, who finished with two hits.

After getting another run in on the bases-loaded walk, the Suns reliever Austin Wood delivered two shutout innings to slam the door on the Dawgs.

The Winter Park offense has struggled as of late, whether its scoring to late or not scoring at all. IT is been noted that the Dawgs did lose dynamic infielder Joe Butts (Catawba), but will continue to try and pick up the pieces. Every team goes through a tough stretch and for the first time this season Winter Park has lost back-to-back contests.

Winter Park will look to get back in the win column as they host DeLand on Tuesday night with first pitch slated for 7:00 PM ET.
