Thursday night was a back and forth affair that went in the favor of the home team.
Badlands, however, scored quickly in the first. Both Ryan Walstad and Michael Furhman recored base hits, and both scored a batter later when Bryson Ford had a wild pitch and a flyout score both runners.
Things would stay that way until the fourth, when Pierre responded. Michael Herrera doubled and Alex Gonzales quickly followed with another two bagger, and one batter later, Zane Phelps singled home the catcher. Phelps would later score on an RBI single by Bill Moreland, and the Trappers took a 3-2 lead.
Badlands tied things in the 6th with a solo homer by Connor VanCleave. That tied things at 3-3.
But, when the bottom of the sixth rolled around, a Trapper rally.
With one out, six Pierre players in a row recorded hits, as Grossman, Moreland, Scott, and Modeste all scored, two runs coming off of Modeste's double, and the Trappers stormed back to reclaim the advantage, 7-3.
Billy Moreland replace starter Dominic Parkhurst after seven innings and yielded one in the eighth.
In the ninth inning, Nathan Sanders cut a 7-4 deficit to 7-6 with a one out, two run bomb that allowed the Big Sticks to come within one. However, Moreland shut the door on the next two hitters (top of the lineup), and the Trappers preserved a 7-6 win. This victory, paired with the Western Nebraska victory over Souris Valley propels Pierre to a game and a half out of the final playoff spot.
