Four Pierre Trappers were named to the 2019 All Star Game in Minot, ND, it was announced by the Expedition League.
On the offensive side of the ball, Michael Herrera has been a powerhouse at the plate, recording the most opposite field hits in all of the EL. Herrera is the only Trappers player to start every single game this season. So far, the shortstop has put together a .321 batting average to go along with a team leading 51 base hits. Herrera also has made several key defensive plays at shortstop and is the everyday leadoff hitter in Tanner Neale's lineup.
Zane Phelps, fresh off of a cycle last night, not only is arguably the best hitter on the Pierre roster but is also an emotional leader of the team. Phelps is second on the team with a .338 batting average and leads the squad with nine home runs. Additionally, Zane leads the Trappers in RBI's with 43 and is tied with fellow all star Herrera with 51 base knocks. For Phelps, all but two games this season has seen the third baseman in the starting lineup.
In the pitching department, Kyle Nordby will make his first all start appearance after publishing a 4-2 record. The righty has thus far posted 30 strikeouts, second best on the roster, and has only allowed 26 hits in 32 2/3 frames on the bump. Nordby attends Minnesota State - Mankato, and as a Freshman, certainly has a bright future ahead for his collegiate career. Congrats to Kyle!
The Trappers final all star is lefty Jackson Back. One of ten returning players for Pierre this season, Jackson is arguably the best lefty in the EL, as his 1.69 ERA is third best in the league, as well as his 42.2 innings pitched. Back also has punched out 37 batters, best on the team, and has given up only eight runs in six starts on the bump. Back will be tasked with keeping the Trappers starting staff uplifted throughout the remainder of the season as he heads to Minot with his other teammates.
It was also announced by the Expedition League that Ken Scott will represent the Trappers in the Home Run Derby.
Congratulations to all of our All Stars!
