Sometimes, giants are meant to be dethroned.

Pierre got off to a torrid pace in the first inning with four runs. Michael Herrera led things off with a single, and after an Alex Gonzales walk, Zane Phelps doubled in both men to make it 2-0. He would later score, along with Sam Kalberer (who also had an RBI), and it was 4-0 after one.

Things would stay that way until the top of the fourth, when Cole Gambil smacked a pitch from Joey Cardamon over the wall to put West Nebraska on the board 4-1. It seemed like the Pioneers would score more, but Cardamon got Peyton Lewis to ground into an inning ending 4-6-3 double play to end the threat.

The Trappers increased their lead in the bottom of the fifth. After Herrera and Gonzales singled with one out, Phelps erupted with a three run homer, his ninth of the season, and another run would make it 8-1 and put Pierre firmly in control.

Three more runs would cross home in the bottom of the sixth inning, with Phelps having a hand in this frame as well. First, Niko Piazza reached on a error, and one batter later, it was 10-1 when Michael Herrera launched home run number two of his season. Then, Phelps tripled with two outs and was doubled in by Nick Grossman, and the rout was on at 11-1 after six.

Cardamon was terrific for Pierre yet again. The righty went 7 1/3 frames on the bump for the Trappers, yielding three runs, one earned, and giving up only one hit. In fact, one hit was all West Nebraska had the entire game.

After the Pioneers tallied three in the top of the eighth to make it 11-4, Phelps completed the second cycle in Trappers history when he launched a 1-0 pitch into right center to score a pair and make the game 13-4.

AJ Fell would come into to close the contest and preserve the 13-4 victory. With the win, the Trappers are now 22-20, and have momentum going into a seven game stint against rival Badlands.
