Date:  Source: Badlands Big Sticks

Due to a rainout on Monday night the Badlands Big Sticks played two seven inning games against the Casper Horseheads on Tuesday night. In the first game the Big Sticks struggled to get any offense going and fell to the Horseheads by a score of 4-0 while only managing two hits. The second game was a different story with the Big Sticks taking control early and getting the win 13-4.

In the first game the offenses for both teams were unable to get anything going until the fourth inning. In the bottom of the fourth inning the Horseheads were able to score the first run of the game. A two out single was able to drive in a run and give Casper a 1-0 lead.

After the Big Sticks were unable to score any runs in the top of the fifth inning, the Horseheads were able to add more to their total and extend their lead. After a fielder’s choice that gave Casper a run, a double was able to drive in two more runs and give the Horseheads a 4-0 lead heading into the last two innings of the game.

The Big Sticks were only able to record one hit in the final two innings and were blanked by the Horseheads who took the victory by a score of 4-0.

In the second game of the afternoon both teams were unable to score a run in the first inning, but the Big Sticks exploded in the second inning with five runs. Connor VanCleave started the inning off with a bang by belting a home run over the right field wall to score the first run of the inning. After two walks and a single by Gabe Knowles, the bases were loaded for Anthony Garrett who hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Dupuis and advance Knowles to third. A walk of Tulimero would load the bases for the Big Sticks once again. With the bases loaded Nathan Sanders delivered with a base clearing double to add three more runs to the total and give the Big Sticks five runs. In the bottom half of the inning the Horseheads were able to score one run on a RBI single to make the score 5-1.

In the top of the third inning the Big Sticks added two more runs. Garrett Dupuis led off the inning with a single. He then stole second base and advanced to third on a passed ball. A walk by Knowles put runners at the corners until another passed ball allowed Dupuis to score and Knowles to advance from first to third. Knowles would later score from third on a fielder’s choice to make the score 7-1.

The Horseheads would score a run in each of the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, but a six run fifth inning by the Big Sticks would put the game out of reach. The Big Sticks would score off of a walk with the bases loaded followed by a two RBI single by Ford to add two more runs. VanCleave would also single with the bases loaded to drive in two runs while another run scored on a throwing error by the Horseheads to give the Big Sticks six runs in the inning. The Big Sticks would finish the game with a 13-4 victory.

The Big Sticks will take on the Casper Horseheads once again Wednesday night for the third game of a four game set. First pitch is set for 6:35 (MDT).
