Week Three Player of the Week - Grant Richardson

Grant Richardson – the league leader in home runs – is the Week Three GLSCL Player of the Week. Richardson hit a home run on the 18th in an 8-5 win against the Clippers and another one on the 23rd in an 8-4 win over the Locos. On the 22nd, he had a multi-home run game. Two homers, a single, and a walk led to four runs for Richardson, and his Cincinnati Steam crushed the Locos 13-2. For the week, he hit .375 with 12 hits in 32 at-bats over 8 games. 7 of the 12 hits were for extra bases – 4 home runs and 3 doubles. He scored 12 runs, had a couple of stolen bases, and earned 3 walks. Richardson is the only player in the league with at least four home runs.

 

Richardson is a sophomore at Indiana and is originally from Fishers, Indiana. The 6-2 outfielder started in 42 games his freshman year for the Hoosiers and hit .264 for the season. He had a very hot start to his college career, still hitting a .400 clip 12 games into his career. He was the Big Ten Player of the Week and was the Freshman of the Week multiple times. Additionally, he earned a spot on the Big Ten All-Freshman Team as an outfielder. Richardson intends to major in Sport Marketing and Management.

 

The Steam are 11-7 in a competitive GLSCL South Division. They will try to increase on their 6-game win streak when they face the Graders, Mariners, and then the Monarchs this week in interleague play. The next four games will be at home for the Steam at McLeary Field.
