Big Sticks rally late to take game 1 from Casper

CASPER, WY - The Badlands Big Sticks rallied late by scoring six runs over the final two innings to defeat the Horseheads and extend their winning streak to eight in a row.

After two scoreless innings the Horseheads struck first in the bottom of the third inning by scoring two runs on a two out two RBI double that gave them a 2-0 lead.

The Big Sticks cut into the lead in the top of the fourth inning when Garrett Dupuis lead off the inning with a double in the left center gap. A RBI single with two outs by Jaret Humphrey was able to drive in Dupuis and put the Big Sticks on the board. In the bottom half of the inning the Horseheads scored a run on a solo home run over the right field wall to give them a 3-1 lead.

After a leadoff walk in the top of the fifth inning Bryson Ford laced a double over the right fielder’s head to put runners on second and third with only one out. After a Schwellenbach walk to load the bases, Garrett Dupuis was able to hit a two RBI single to tie the score at three runs each. The Horseheads were able to plate one run in the bottom half on another solo homerun to right field to give them a one run lead.

Each team was able to score run in the sixth inning due to an RBI single by Ford that scored Humphrey and an RBI double by the Horseheads to help them keep a one run lead heading into the final three innings.

The final two innings of the game were dominated by the Big Sticks. They were able to score six runs and gave up none on defense in the process. Humphrey started off the eighth inning with a single to give him his third hit of the day. After a walk and a sacrifice bunt Souza Paaluhi hit a sacrifice fly to score Humphrey and move Sanders to third base. Ford then delivered an RBI triple to give the Big Sticks a one run lead. Schwellenbach singled the next at bat to score the third run of the inning and give the Big Sticks a two run lead heading into the ninth inning, The Big Sticks were able to score three more runs in the top of the ninth inning lead by Nathan Sanders who hit a towering homerun to dead center. The final score would be 10-5 in favor of the Big Sticks to give them their 20th win of the season.

The Big Sticks will be back in action against the Casper Horseheads Thursday night to close out the two game set before heading to Spearfish. First pitch is set for 6:35 (MDT).
