ARTESIA, Calif. - CSUN once again frustrated Loyola Marymount Saturday in the West Coast Hockey Conference semifinals shutting the Lions out for the third time this season 8-0.

The Matadors swept LMU during the regular season with 5-0 and 7-0 victories on Nov. 2 and 3 for a total goal aggregate of 20-0. Three of CSUN's four shutouts this season have come against LMU.

Just like the first meeting at the Simi Valley Iceoplex senior Brandon Kalvoda earned the shutout making 10 saves this time. Both of Kalvoda's career shutouts have been against the Lions. His record on the season is now 7-4-0-1.

Senior Eli Berengut scored the only goal CSUN would need at 5:55 of the first period. Junior Nik Giers made a beautiful stretch pass up the right wing and Berengut beat Jason Footlick with a wrist shot.

The Matadors doubled their lead at 13:38 of the second. Graduate student Andre Ramirez dangled around a Lion penalty killer in the high slot and buried a shot along the ice. It was Ramirez's team leading 18th goal of the season. Freshman Geno Norraik finished off the period scoring on a rebound with a backhand shot at 8:49. LMU only registered one official shot on goal during the middle frame.

CSUN exploded in the third period. First freshman Zach Carnes scored 1:01 into the final frame. At 11:17 junior Quentin Abaya made it 5-0. After a huge post whistle scrum at 8:48 the Matadors received a major power play. They didn't let LMU off the hook scoring twice on it. First Abaya picked up his second of the game then Giers beat Footlick with an absolute bomb of a slap shot from the middle point. With just 1:14 left junior John Michael Laurin put the icing on the cake. Laurin re-tied Ramirez for the team lead in goals with the final tally.

CSUN finished 3-for-8 on the power play while LMU came up empty on four chances.

The Matadors now move on to their fourth straight WCHC Final on Sunday at 6:50 PM. The No. 2 seed CSUN takes on the No. 1 seed Long Beach State for the second year in a row. The Matadors are trying to capture their third consecutive conference title.
