SANFORD – The Sanford Mainers baseball team announced on Wednesday that Ryan Zimmerman will take over the duties of Director of Broadcasting and Media for the 2019 season.

Zimmerman is currently wrapping up his junior year at the University of California, Berkeley where he is pursuing a degree in Applied Mathematics with a minor in Spanish.

At school, Zimmerman is the Assistant Director of Sports Programming at 90.7 FM KALX - Berkeley’s university and listener supported radio station. There, he provides play-by-play broadcast coverage for California Golden Bears football, men’s and women’s basketball, as well as baseball.

He also hosts a weekly sports radio show called “Bear Talk” where he holds discussions with other members of the radio station’s sports department about the biggest topics in California and Bay Area sports.

Last summer, Zimmerman worked as the Director of Communications/Play-by-Play Broadcaster for the Crestwood Panthers of the Midwest Collegiate League. In addition to calling all 36 Panthers games, he operated his own camera setup, officially scored each game, ran and periodically updated the team’s website and social media accounts, and wrote recap articles after every game to post on the team’s website.

Zimmerman is eager to apply his experience in sports broadcasting and his love for the game of baseball to the Mainers, providing them with professional quality broadcasts throughout the 2019 NECBL season.

“[Zimmerman] was very enthusiastic about the position when he applied,” Mainers Vice-Chairman, Jacob Ouellette said of Zimmerman. “Combining that enthusiasm with his love for the game, dedication to his education, and his willingness to grow in the field, he was a perfect fit for the organization. We look forward to working with him this summer.”

Zimmerman is a Chicago native and a graduate of the University of Chicago Laboratory High School. His favorite sports teams are the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Blackhawks, Chicago Bulls, Indianapolis Colts, and Manchester United.
