Petosa, Caldon Sweep Week Eight

Date:  Source: Ocean State Waves

Spring has graced us across the northeast, making us even more excited for the anticipated summer season, just 50 days away. Closing out week eight of the collegiate baseball season, we’ve been thoroughly enjoying keeping up with all our players' successes, making the player of the week selection process more difficult as the weeks trail on. Two players who thoroughly stood out to us this past weekend are two recurring player of the week winners; Carmine Petosa out of Bryant University, and Mike Caldon out of Felician University.

Earning back-to-back Rienzi Pasta Player of the Week honors is senior first-baseman, Carmine Petosa from Bryant University. Petosa has played a major role in the Bulldogs’ hot streak, sweeping five of their last six weekend series and, and in high-scoring competitions. The Bulldogs are now 21-4 in their last 25 matchups, going 11-1 in American East play. In their recent series against Binghamton and their midweek matchup at UConn, Petosa recorded seven hits, with two doubles, two walks, a home run and three runs-batted-in. With his outstanding numbers on the year, he now sits tied for fifth longest on-base streak in program history, finding the bags in 36 consecutive games. The Jackson, New Jersey native now has five home runs and 26 runs batted in on the year, we can’t wait to see what he accomplishes in Ocean State blue!

On the mound for Felician University, finding new ways to shock us all, Mike Caldon earns Whalers Brewery Pitcher of the Week Honors once again. The junior had another record week against Dominican College and Goldey-Beacom College. Making a big start against Dominican, Caldon held them scoreless for six innings while tallying seven strikeouts. In a big relief role against Goldey-Beacom, Caldon earned a season-low of hits allowed with just one, while striking out six-of-eight batters faced on the outing. Caldon earned his first save of the year on this outing, and improved to 10-3.The New Jersey native now has 74 strikeouts in 56 innings on the year, with an ERA of 3.86. This electric week earned him CACC Pitcher of the Week, and of course, Whalers Brewery Pitcher of the Week honors once again.
