NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - CSUN finished the calendar year ranked ninth in the West Region.

Despite dropping one spot yet again this week the Matadors have set themselves up well to make Regionals for the second time in three seasons.

They will pretty much have to win out though if they want to get back to the postseason because No. 14 BYU is currently the only ranked team they are scheduled to play the rest of the season.

The reason why CSUN dropped in the ranking is because of their strength of opponents the last two weekends. The University of San Diego and Chapman are two of the lowest ranked teams in the region. Meanwhile teams around CSUN are playing other ranked teams. For example Williston State moved up six spots to No. 6 this week because they swept previously No. 5 ranked Dakota College. Also the University of Providence jumped from No. 18 to No. 11 by sweeping previously ranked No. 9 Eastern Washington.

It's important to remember that No. 1 Mary and Providence are ineligible for the postseason because they are first year programs so technically CSUN is ranked eighth.
