Panthers Fall To Baycats in Finals

Date:  Source: IBL: Kitchener Panthers/K-W Junior Panthers

It would be hard pressed to follow up the classic games that this series has given the fans, but Game 6 had everything that one could imagine in a baseball game..

Kitchener got a run in the bottom of the 1st on a Keegan Marsden RBI single scoring Tanner Nivins for a 1-0 lead.  Barrie wasted no time taking the lead themselves as Kyle DeGrace blasted a 2 run HR in the top of the 2nd off of Panthers starter Christian Hauck.

Hauck and Baycats starter Santos Arias would each throw up zeroes in the 3rd and 4th.  Kitchener would get to Arias in the 5th. Mike Andrulis and Colin Gordner each had singles, Tanner Nivins reached on an error to load the bases.  Mike Gordner had a 1 out RBI groundout and Brian Burton beat out an infield dribbler for a RBI single to put the Panthers up 3-2.

It would stay 3-2 until the 7th inning when Barrie would take the lead again.  Mike Schnurr who was working in his 2nd inning of relief got a popup to start the 7th, but Glenn Jackson lined a HR to tie the game at 3.  Schnurr would walk Ryan Spataro and Starlin Rodriguez sent a HR out to LF for a 5-3 Baycats lead. After the HR both teams had words for each other which resulted in ejections for both squads.  Schnurr was ejected for the Panthers and Rodriguez for the Baycats. Mike Vickers would walk Jordan Castaldo and then Kyle DeGrace doubled off of Miguel Lahera to extend the Baycats lead to 6-3 through the top of the 7th.

The Panthers would try to fight their way back into the game but couldn’t put up much of a threat the rest of the way and Baycats Adam Hawes closed out the 9th for a 6-3 Baycats win.  The win gave the Baycats a 4-2 series win and their 5th straight Championship.
