Panthers Finish Off Sox

Date:  Source: IBL: Kitchener Panthers/K-W Junior Panthers

On a warm Sunday afternoon where the Panthers were looking to finish off the Sox, the Pitchers would lean on righty Christian Hauck.

Hauck was up to the task firing 6 innings of 1 run baseball which was good enough for the Panthers who in that time took advantage of some timely errors by the Red Sox.  In the 1st inning a throwing error with 2 outs by 3rd baseman Blake Krauer allowed Yorbis Borrto to come home and score from 2nd base.  Kitchener was the beneficiary of more throwing errors in the bottom of the 3rd inning.  Colin Gordner lead off with a single and stole 2nd base, Sox catcher Ricky Murray air mailed the attempt into center field.   As Gordner was going to 3rd, Sox center fielder Andris Rizquez then air mailed his throw out of bounds over 3rd base awarding Gordner home for a 2-0 Panthers lead.

Brantford would get on the board in the 4th inning when Ricky Murray singled and took 2nd on an errant pickoff attempt at 1st base.  Once Murray moved to 2nd, Nic Burdett followed that with an RBI single into center field cutting the Panthers lead to 2-1.

It would stay 2-1 until the 6th when Keegan Marsden launched a 3 run home run to right scoring Mike Gordner and Brian Burton who got on board with singles.  The homer extended the panthers lead to 5-1.

It stayed 5-1 until the 9th when the Red Sox got a run back when the Panthers had their own bout of sloppy defence.  Deandrea Ashbury-Heath got on base after he struck out but got to 1st on the wild pitch.  After a Dan Jagdeo single Ashbury-Heath took 3rd on a defensive indifference.  Pinch hitter Reece Durman would strike out but as Gordner tossed the ball back to Miguel Lahera wildly the ball would drop allowing Ashbury-Heath to scamper home to make it 5-2.  Lahera would recover and get a pop up and a groundout to 2nd to end the inning and the series as the Panthers swept the Red Sox.

Dates and start times for round 2 are TBD, please check back or the Panthers social media channels for the information when it becomes available.
