After a magical inaugural season of baseball in the Magic City, the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs’ Expedition League run came to a close with a 12-9 loss to the Badlands Big Sticks Tuesday night.

The Sabre Dogs offense, as it has done all year, produced runs early and often, but could not sustain a lead and finished the 2018 season with a 40-25 overall record.

Clay Ashworth opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning and the Sabre Dogs jumped out to a 7-0 lead with a big six-run frame in the second, including a home run by Ben Smith.

Badlands chipped away at the Souris Valley Lead and ultimately took their first lead of the night with an eight-run seventh inning. The Sabre Dogs threatened with runs in the seventh and ninth innings, but could not complete the comeback.

The Sabre Dogs burst onto the Souris Valley sports scene in 2018 with a string of memorable moments, including: A 13-game win streak in the month of June, a team stolen base total of over 225, and a Lewis Division Regular-Season Championship.
