Cards Hang On For 6-5 Home Win over Royals

Date:  Source: IBL: Guelph Royals

The win improves Hamilton’s record to 10-16, while the loss puts the Royals at 9-19.

Hamilton jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on an RBI single by Jake Chiaravalle, scoring Jake Foden. That lead lasted until the fifth inning when Guelph put up two runs to take the 2-1 lead. The first run came off a wild pitch from Hamilton starter Tyler Howard that scored Royals centerfielder Ethan Mohan from third base. Then Justin Interisano scored Sean Reilly with an RBI single.

The Cardinals scored four runs in the sixth to take the 5-2 lead as Jacob Martins drove in Chris Beer on an RBI single with other runs scoring on a wild pitch and a Guelph throwing error.

Hamilton added an insurance run in the eighth inning when Foden drove in Michael Ssemanda with an RBI single.

That insurance run would prove to be important as Guelph scored three runs in the top of the ninth with two out. Liam Hicks, Matthew Pilarczyk and Brendan Keys all had RBI singles to put Guelph within one run.

Hamilton's Zackary Gonzalez took the win, pitching 2.1 innings and striking out two. Tyler Wood earned the save, giving up three hits and one run in the ninth.

Royals reliever Jorge De La Cruz took the loss, pitching 2.2 innings and giving up four hits, two runs, only one earned, and three walks to go along with a strikeout.
