PIHL Players of the Month for January
Varsity AAA – Plum – SERGIO BENITEZ
Senior Goaltender helped lead Plum to a 2-1 record in January with wins over Butler and a shootout thriller halting Mt. Lebanon. Sergio faced 97 shots, stopping 91 one of them for 1.06 GAA and earning a .938 save % in allowing only 6 goals in those 3 games while playing 156 minutes. Sergio is a significant piece to Plum’s success as of late being a contender in battling for the 8th and final playoff spot in AAA.
Varsity AA – Greater Latrobe – J.T. SCHIMIZZI
Senior forward and 2018 PIHL All-Star J.T. helped Latrobe roll to a 4-1 record in January, propelling them into first place in the southeastern conference. J.T. put up 12 points in 5 games with 5 goals, 7 assists and 0 penalty minutes. One of his most significant accomplishments during the January stretch, a game winning goal in overtime vs. Upper St. Clair, 5-4.
Varsity A – Chartiers Valley – MICHAEL SEDLAK
Senior forward and 2018 PIHL All-Star Michael amassed 16 points in 6 games with 8 goals and 8 assists. Averaging 2.7 points per game, this tally included a GWG and a PP goal. Michael has helped give Chartiers Valley a resurgence in the standings positioning them for a playoff spot with a 5-1 record during the month.
Varsity D2 – Connellsville – RYAN BROWN
Junior forward and also a 2018 All-Star Ryan registered a whopping 8 goals and 12 assists, boasting 20 points in just 5 games helping Connellsville to a 4-1 record in the month of January. Averaging 4 points per game, Ryan’s tally included a GWG and a PP goal as well. Ryan has certainly helped contribute to the Falcon’s 3rd place slot in the standings and will make a strong push in the playoffs.
