SPECIAL TO THE HERALD
Hinshaw made his debut for the Bees Wednesday in game two of a doubleheader against the Long Island Ducks, going 0-for-3 with a strikeout. Although the team has been in a funk this season, he believes in the talent of the club and is just happy to a part of the baseball legacy in New Britain.
“The team chemistry and the energy here is a pretty cool experience for even a young guy like me. It’s been great,” Hinshaw said. “I am just glad to be here in New Britain.”
Prior to coming over to the Bees, the 27-year-old played for the Pittsburg Diamonds and the Vallejo Admirals in the Pacific League. In the 2014 season with the Admirals, Hinshaw batted .339 in 65 games with 12 home runs and 43 RBI, earning the Pacific Association Rookie of the Year award.
Bees manager Stan Cliburn is well aware of the immense talent Hinshaw brings to the team, making him believe Hinshaw is going to play an important role for the Bees this year.
“He is going to help us. He is going to pinch-hit; he is going to play some right field, play some left and he is also going to go to center, and when a guy needs a day off, he can go out there,” Cliburn said. “He is young, energetic and he brings a lot to this team. He brings speed, a good arm in the outfield. I saw him in the Arizona Winter League, he is one of the best athletes out there.”
