Jay Carp has been named the 2018 Arizona Winter League Defensive Player of the Year.

Carp, a 23 year old catcher out of Fontana, CA, was one of a handful of returning AWL players this season. Carp played college ball at Chaffey College in CA, and following last year's AWL season, played for the Utica Unicorns in the United Shore Professional Baseball League. He was signed late in the season by the York Revolution of the Atlantic League and managed to play in a handful of games. He is rumored to be heading back to York this season.

Carp played all 15 games for the Edmonton Capitals this season under manager Billy Horn, and despite the wear and tear of catching so many games in a short period of time, still managed to hi .311 with 2 doubles, 2 triples, 15 RBIs, and 8 runs scored.

"Jay is as solid as it comes behind the plate. He puts down the right fingers, blocks very well, receives very well and has a very good arm with a quick release. He's exactly where he needs to be in the Atlantic League. I hope he has a great season and gets a shot in affiliated baseball. He's also a fantastic teammate and a great leader on the field. He is very well deserving of the Defensive Player of the Year Award", said his manager Billy Horn (Normal Cornbelters of the Frontier League).
