Once again, the season will begin with the defending champions playing at Sanford Memorial Stadium. The Scorpions will look to follow their predeccesor, the Boom, in capturing a league title. June 1st falls on a Thursday, and in Sanford, that means Thirsty Thursday ... 2-for-1 Yuengling beers will be available all night long!

DeLand and Winter Garden will join Altamonte in opening up their home schedule on Friday the 2nd. Leesburg and Winter Park will have their first home games on Saturday, June 3rd. 

Each team will have a 45 game slate, with DeLand, Leesburg and Sanford playing 23 at home, while Altamonte, Winter Garden and Winter Park will each have 22 home contests.

Per tradition, the Florida League All-Star Game will be held in Sanford. The day's festivities include a scout showcase, home run derby, and the top players from all six teams competing in an exciting exhibition. Last year, the the North team (DeLand, Leesburg, Sanford) defeated the South All-Stars (Altamonte, Winter Garden, Winter Park) by a score of 5-1.

On July 15 & 16, the top prospects from the Florida League will travel to Kannapolis, North Carolina to take part in the 5th Annual Southeast Prospect Showcase. This unique event brings the top players from summer leagues together to play in front of pro scouts. For the first three years of the event, it was the Florida League versus the Sunbelt League. Last year, the Southern Collegiate League was added to the list of participants. In 2017, the Cal Ripken League, based out of Maryland, will join the fun, bringing the number of participating leagues to four. 

The first week of August will mark the start of the playoffs:

Tuesday August 1: #5 Seed at #4 Seed

Wednesday August 2: #5/4 at #1 ---------- #3 at #2

Thursday August 3: #1 at #5/4 ---------- #2 at #3

Friday August 4: #5/4 at #1 (If necessary) ---------- #3 at #2 (If necessary)

Once again, the Florida League Championship game will be held at Tropicana Field, home of the Tampa Bay Rays. The game will be held on Sunday, August 6th follwoing the conclusion of the Rays/Brewers game. The Florida League is the only summer league in the country to play its Championship Game on an MLB field!
