2016 ORANGEVILLE FOUNDERS' CUP WILL WELCOME TEAMS FROM COAST TO COAST

The 2016 Orangeville Founders' Cup Committee has been planning the Canadian Jr. B Lacrosse Championship Tournament for almost 2 years. Teams from across Canada have confirmed their intent to compete in this prestigious event later this summer from August 15th-21st.

The Coquitlam Jr. B Adanacs from British Columbia have committed to attend the event. Team Manager Randy Clough is looking forward to the experience and has been planning his team's trip for almost a year. The Adanacs play in the West Coast Junior Lacrosse League and currently sit in second place with a record of 12-3.

Moving east, three teams from the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League will be representing the prairie provinces. The Alberta representative will be their league champion. At this time, the Calgary Chill and Calgary Shamrocks sit tied for first place in the South Division with 10-1 records. The Sherwood Park Titans are atop the North Division with a record of 8-3. The Saskatchewan Swat and Manitoba Blizzard will be travelling to Orangeville to compete in the weeklong competition. Currently, the Swat sit in 6th place in the North Division with a 1-9 record, while the Blizzard's 8 wins and 4 losses are good enough to put them in 3rd place in the South Division.

The Orangeville Jr. B Northmen have an automatic berth in the tournament as hosts. The winner of the J. A. MacDonald Trophy as the Ontario Jr. B Lacrosse League champion will also gain entry into this distinguished competition. At this time, the top four teams in the Eastern Conference heading into the postseason are the Clarington Green Gaels, Akwesasne Indians, Oakville Buzz, and Halton Hills Bulldogs. In the Western Conference the Orangeville Northmen, Windsor Clippers, Niagara Thunderhawks, and Six Nations Rebels took the top four positions. With so much parity in the league this year, the winner of the league title will have to battle through 4 tough rounds to earn the honour.

The First Nations Jr. B Lacrosse League has showed extremely well at the last couple of Founders' Cups with the Seneca War Chiefs as their representative. The War Chiefs sit atop the standings with a 6-0 record and will be heavy favourites, with former NLL star Darris Kilgour as their coach, to capture the league championship again this summer.

Last but not least, Nova Scotia will be sending an all-star team from the East Coast Junior Lacrosse League to round out the 8 team competition for the 2016 Founders' Cup. With lacrosse gaining popularity in Nova Scotia, this team should be much improved from last year.

The Orangeville Founders' Cup Committee is ecstatic that 8 teams will be making Orangeville their home the week of August 15th-21st, 2016 and they look forward to putting on a first class event.
