Gross' big game bests Quaker Valley in 8-6 Armstrong win

Luke Gross had four goals and two assists to lead Armstrong to an 8-6 victory over Quaker Valley.

Gross notched his first tally 7:52 into the first period. He then added goals at 55 seconds into the second, at 16:04 into the third, and at 16:31 into the third.

Armstrong led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Armstrong's Jace Rearic scored at 2:48 in the second period to put Armstrong up 5-2.

Armstrong forced Quaker Valley's goaltenders to work in net, finishing with 32 shots and forcing 24 saves. Regina Granata made 24 stops and Connor Gatesman made zero. Armstrong put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Quaker Valley to score on any of its four power plays. Armstrong surpassed its usual scoring output this season. Armstrong averages 5.7 goals per game.

Armstrong additionally got points from Nicholas Long, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Armstrong also got a goal from Giovanni Romeo as well. In addition, Armstrong received assists from Tanner Stivason, Easton Hooks, David Contrael, Donovan Wichowski, and Zane Wichowski, who each chipped in one.

Quaker Valley was led by Connor Quinn, who had two goals and two assists. Quinn scored the first of his two goals at 9:48 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Armstrong. Daniel Fagan picked up the assist. Quinn's next tally made the score 4-2 Armstrong with 18:28 left in the second period. Peter Hall assisted on the tally. Quaker Valley also got points from Hall, who also registered one goal and one assist, Ryan Quinn, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Ricardo Fernandez, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Beau Tomczak, who also finished with one goal and one assist. More assists for Quaker Valley came via Jake Giotto and Noah Shultz, who contributed one each.

Taylor Smouse recorded 14 saves for Armstrong. Armstrong incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Quaker Valley incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
