Quad City hangs on, beats Rapid City 3-1

Gergo Nagy gave the Quad City Mallards the lead in the first period, and Rapid City was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 3-1.

Quad City took over the lead for good with a goal by Nagy at 6:06 in the first period. Justin Fox assisted on the tally.

After the loss made the series score 3-2 in the best of seven series, Rapid City faces elimination next time out.

The Mallards were led by Fox, who finished with one goal and one assist. Fox scored on the power play 10:26 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Quad City. Quad City had taken the advantage when Rapid City's Jared Brown got sent off for slashing. Nagy picked up the assist.

The Mallards stifled Rapid City's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Quad City forced Rapid City goalie Wayne Savage to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Quad City also got points from Nagy, who also registered one goal and one assist. Vladimir Nikiforov also scored for Quad City. In addition, Quad City received assists from Jeff Lee, Thomas Frazee, and Matt Duffy, who each chipped in one.

Rapid City was led by Kevin Harvey, who scored the team's only goal. Harvey scored 5:28 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Quad City. Sean Erickson assisted on the tally.

The Mallards' Ty Rimmer stopped 20 shots out of the 21 that he faced. Quad City totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Savage rejected 30 shots on goal for Rapid City. Rapid City totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 0-for-3 on the power play.
