A stellar performance between the pipes by Thomas Heemskerk helped the Quad City Mallards defeat Rapid City, 5-1. The win by Quad City broke a deadlock and gave the Mallards a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series. Thomas Frazee had two goals and one assist to lead Quad City. Frazee scored the first of his two goals at 15:28 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Nicholas Rioux provided the assist. Frazee's next tally made the score 4-1 Quad City with 1:15 left in the third period. Vladimir Nikiforov assisted on the tally. The Mallards put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Rapid City to score on any of its four power plays. Quad City relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Frazee, Jim McKenzie and Michael Monfredo took 13 of the team's 25 shots. Quad City additionally got points from Jordan Mayer, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Quad City included Jeff Lee and Mike Stinziani, who each put in one. In addition, Quad City received assists from Justin Fox and Matt Duffy, who each chipped in one. Rapid City kept the Mallards' goalie busy throughout the game, and Heemskerk made 30 saves on 31 shots. Rapid City was led by Sean Erickson, who scored the team's only goal. Erickson scored 7:37 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Rapid City. Scott Wray provided the assist. Quad City incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
