i-wireless Center    Fri, Feb 28, 2014

The Brampton Beast survived a determined comeback attempt by the Quad City Mallards on the way to a 2-1 win.

A goal by Tylor Michel put Brampton up 2-0 in the first period, but Quad City pulled to within one on Chris Greene's tally 17:09 into the third period.

The Mallards were stymied by the Beast netminder Grant Rollheiser, who stopped 31 shots during the victory. The solid play of Rollheiser will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.94.

Brampton excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances.

Brampton also got a goal from Brett Smith as well. More assists for Brampton came via Matt Suderman, Erik Spady, Steve Makway, and Steve Ward, who each chipped in one.

Quad City did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Mallards put an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game. Quad City's defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 15 shots between them. The Mallards' offense rang up 32 shots on the Beast's net.

Other players who recorded assists for Quad City were Darren McMillan and Nick Grasso, who contributed one a piece.

Brampton incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Thomas Heemskerk made 20 saves for Quad City on 22 shots. The Mallards incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
