Quad City rides Rimmer to victory over Wichita, 4-1

Intrust Bank Arena    Sat, Feb 22, 2014

Ty Rimmer stood on his head and made 29 saves to lead the Quad City Mallards to a 4-1 victory over the Wichita Thunder.

Quad City was led by Vladimir Nikiforov, who grabbed one goal. Nikiforov scored on the power play 16:34 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Quad City. The Mallards had gained a power play chance when Nick McParland was whistled for slashing. Michael Monfredo picked up the assist.

Quad City put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Wichita to score on any of its three power plays.

Matt Boyd also scored for Quad City. Other players who recorded assists for Quad City were Darren McMillan, Mike Stinziani, and Gergo Nagy, who each chipped in one and Jeff Lee and Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel, who contributed two a piece.

The Thunder managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Wichita finished below its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game.

The Thunder were led by RG Flath, who scored the team's only goal. Flath scored 11:21 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Quad City. Matt Summers assisted on the tally.
