McMillin's goals lift Allen to 5-2 victory over Quad Cityi-wireless Center Fri, Feb 07, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Allen Americans relied on the scoring touch of Brian McMillin, who netted two goals, to beat the Quad City Mallards, 5-2. McMillin scored at 2:31 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Allen and again while 13 seconds into the third to make the score 4-2 Allen.Allen was hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. The 34 shots that the Americans put on net surpassed Allen's average of 24.8 shots per game this season. Allen also got points from Daniel Tetrault, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Gregor Hanson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Alex Lavoie, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Allen received assists from Mike Berube, Phil Fox, and Jamie Schaafsma, who each chipped in one and Garrett Klotz and Jonathon Zion, who contributed two a piece. Quad City was often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. The Mallards surpassed its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. Quad City's offense was clicking better than usual and put 42 shots on goal during the game, better than the 30.8 shots per game it averages. The Mallards were helped by Matt Duffy, who racked up one goal. Duffy scored on the power play 5:47 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Allen. Quad City had gotten the advantage when the Americans' Ross Rouleau was sent off for roughing. Vladimir Nikiforov provided the assist. Quad City also got a goal from Michael Monfredo as well. More assists for Quad City came via Nicolas Rioux and Jeff Lee, who each chipped in one. Mark Guggenberger rejected 40 shots on goal for Allen. The Americans registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Ty Rimmer made 29 saves for the Mallards on 34 shots. Quad City registered two goals on seven power play opportunities.
