Behind a great game by David Rutherford, who had two goals and one assist, the Arizona Sundogs defeated the Wichita Thunder, 6-3. Rutherford scored at 27 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Arizona and again while 2:59 into the third to make the score 4-3 Arizona.Arizona excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Sundogs' goal total was higher than their season average. Arizona has scored at the pace of 2.7 goals per game during the current campaign. The Sundogs relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Kevin Baker, Rutherford and Brandon Coccimiglio took 13 of the team's 25 shots. Arizona also got points from Baker, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Coccimiglio, who also grabbed two goals and one assist. Bryan Cameron also scored for Arizona. Other players who recorded assists for Arizona were Garrett Clarke, Jordan Clendenning, Ian Schultz, Paul McIlveen, and Andrew Engelage, who contributed one a piece. By firing 31 shots on goal, Wichita exceeded the 25.9 shots it averages per game this year. The Thunder were led by Tomas Klempa, who registered two goals.
