St. Charles survives Quad City comeback, wins 3-2

The Quad City Mallards tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the St. Charles Chill would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

A goal by Kyle OKane put St. Charles up 3-1 in the second period, but Quad City pulled to within one on Thomas Frazee's tally 15:52 into the third period.

The Chill were sparked by OKane, who had one goal. OKane scored on the power play 14:34 into the second period to make the score St. Charles. St. Charles had gained a power play chance when Matt Boyd was whistled for hooking. Jordan Fox provided the assist.

The Chill put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Mallards to score on any of their three power plays. The 27 shots that St. Charles put on net surpassed the Chill's average of 23.0 shots per game this season.

St. Charles also had goals scored by Steve Anthony and Martin Hlinka, who each put in one. In addition, St. Charles received assists from Dan Weiss, Steve Makway, David Strathman, and Phil Buschbacher, who contributed one a piece.

Quad City's offense was helped by the efforts of its defensemen, who managed to put 18 shots on net during the game. The Mallards' offense was clicking better than usual and put 38 shots on goal during the game, better than the 32.5 shots per game they average.

Other players who recorded assists for Quad City were Jeff Lee, Gabriel Levesque, and Gergo Nagy, who each chipped in one.

Robert Moss rejected 36 shots on goal for St. Charles. The Chill incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Ty Rimmer recorded 24 saves for Quad City. The Mallards incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
