Rapid City had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the Quad City Mallards.

Rapid City was led by goalie Tim Boron, who finished with 25 saves while allowing one goal. Boron managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.99 prior to the game.

Rapid City was paced by Sean Erickson, who had one goal and one assist. Erickson scored 15:52 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Rapid City. Matthew Larke picked up the assist.

Rapid City excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. With 36 shots on target during the contest, Rapid City exceeded the 30.4 shots it averages per game this year.

Rapid City also got points from Scott Wray, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Konrad Reeder, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Rapid City also had goals scored by Eric Giosa and Scott Brannon, who each put in one. In addition, Rapid City received assists from Jesse Schultz, who had two and Justin Faryna and Kyle Stroh, who each chipped in one.

Quad City racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with five minors and two majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. The Mallards had been averaging 18.0 minutes in penalties per game. Quad City put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Rapid City to score on any of its four power plays. The Mallards were below their usual level of shot production, taking 26 shots compared to the 32.7 Quad City averages. The Mallards' offense operated below they season average. Quad City averages 3.8 goals per game. The Mallards' offense was helped by the efforts of their defensemen, who managed to put 12 shots on net during the game.

Quad City was led by Matt Duffy, who scored the team's only goal. Duffy scored 15:33 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Rapid City. Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel provided the assist.

Rapid City ended with 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors. Thomas Heemskerk rejected 31 shots on goal for the Mallards.
