Jesse Schultz scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and Rapid City picked up the extra point in a 3-2 (2-0 SO) win over the Allen Americans.

The shootout lasted for seven attempts between the teams. Rapid City's other shootout goal was scored by Schultz.

The Rapid City penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled five minors and three majors for 25 minutes in penalty time. Rapid City had been averaging 17.0 minutes in penalties per game. Rapid City stifled Allen's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Rapid City put 35 shots on net during the contest, more than the 28.6 it averages per game.

Rapid City was helped by Austin Mayer, who had one goal. Mayer scored short handed 10:47 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Rapid City. Rapid City was on a disadvantage when Jordan Behler went off the ice for fighting. Ryan Palmer picked up the assist. Sean Erickson also scored for Rapid City. Other players who recorded assists for Rapid City were Eric Giosa, Matthew Larke, and Tristin Llewellyn, who each chipped in one.

The Americans racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and three majors for 29 minutes in penalty time. Allen surpassed its season average of 23.0 penalty minutes per game. Rapid City was unable to stop the Americans from sending pucks towards the net, and Allen eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

The Americans were helped by Darryl Bootland, who racked up one goal and one assist. Bootland scored 3:35 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Jonathan Lessard assisted on the tally. Allen additionally got points from Alex Lavoie, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Allen received assists from Trevor Hendrikx, who had one.

Rapid City's Keaton Hartigan stopped 29 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Rapid City registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Mark Guggenberger made 32 saves for Allen on 34 shots. The Americans registered zero goals on three power play opportunities.
