Quad City holds on for 4-3 win against St. Charles

The Quad City Mallards survived a determined comeback attempt by the St. Charles Chill on the way to a 4-3 win.

A goal by Thomas Frazee put Quad City up 4-2 in the third period, but St. Charles pulled to within one on Steve Makway's tally 17:18 into the third period.

In the losing effort, the Chill were led by Makway, who grabbed two goals. Makway scored the first of his two goals at 13:25 into the second period to make the score 2-1 St. Charles. Steve Anthony assisted on the tally. Makway's next tally made the score 4-3 Quad City with 2:42 left in the third period. Anthony Perdicaro provided the assist.

The Mallards excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Quad City forced St. Charles goalie Linus Lundin to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. The Mallards' defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 16 shots between them.

Quad City additionally got points from Jeff Lee, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Quad City also had goals scored by Mike Stinziani and Jim McKenzie, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Quad City were Tyler Yaworski, Michael Monfredo, Vladimir Nikiforov, Mike Hellyer, and Matt Boyd, who each chipped in one.

The Chill put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Quad City to score on any of its four power plays. By firing 30 shots on goal, St. Charles exceeded the 20.5 shots it averages per game this year. The Chill's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Kyle OKane also scored for St. Charles. More assists for St. Charles came via Andrew Conboy, Phil Buschbacher, and Jordan Fox, who contributed one a piece.

Ty Rimmer made 27 saves for the Mallards on 30 shots. Quad City ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. The Mallards ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Gergo Nagy was ejected from the game. St. Charles' Lundin stopped 33 shots out of the 37 that he faced. The Chill incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
