Brampton survives St. Charles comeback, wins 2-1

The Brampton Beast survived a determined comeback attempt by the St. Charles Chill on the way to a 2-1 win.

Brampton made the score 2-0 on a goal by Josh McQuade at 14:19 in the third period, and St. Charles got as close as 2-1 when Martin Hlinka scored 18:48 into the third period.

The Chill were stymied by the Beast netminder Kristofer Westblom, who stopped 33 shots during the victory. Westblom certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.68 entering the contest.

Brampton was led by McQuade, who finished with one goal.

The Beast stifled St. Charles' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Brampton struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 22 penalty minutes for five opposing power plays.

Brampton also got a goal from Andrew Fournier as well. More assists for Brampton came via Rob Collins, Matt Caruana, and Jamie VanderVeeken, who each chipped in one.

The Chill forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and two majors for 42 minutes in penalty time. St. Charles surpassed its season average of 27.0 penalty minutes per game. The defense for the Chill played an important role offensively, racking up 18 shots on goal. St. Charles' offense rang up 34 shots on the Beast's net.

In addition, St. Charles received assists from Kyle OKane, who had one.

Brampton registered one goal on five power play opportunities. The Chill's Linus Lundin stopped 25 shots out of the 27 that he faced. St. Charles ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Anthony Perdicaro was ejected from the game.
