Quad City erases deficit to stun Denver, 4-3i-wireless Center Sat, Nov 09, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Quad City Mallards climbed out of a two-goal hole to beat the Denver Cutthroats, 4-3. Quad City never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Mallards fell behind 2-0 after a goal by Denver's Vincent Arseneau at 4:08 in the first period. Quad City tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Jeff Lee at 11:10 in the second period. The Mallards netted the game winner at 19:05 in the third period on a goal by Lee. Lee had two goals to lead Quad City to victory. The Mallards were below their usual level of shot production, taking 29 shots compared to the 37.4 Quad City averages. The Mallards were often in penalty trouble, as it ended with nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. Quad City also got a goal from Vladimir Nikiforov as well. More assists for Quad City came via Thomas Frazee, who had two and Michael Monfredo, Mike Stinziani, Gergo Nagy, Matt Boyd, Matt Duffy, and Jim McKenzie, who each chipped in one. The the Cutthroats penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. Denver surpassed its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. The Cutthroats' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Quad City power plays. Denver relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Garrett Bembridge, A.J. Gale and Arseneau took 21 of the team's 40 shots. Jean-Philipp Chabot also scored for Denver. In addition, Denver received assists from Troy Schwab, who had two and TJ Fox and Matt Glasser, who contributed one a piece. Ty Rimmer made 37 saves for Quad City on 40 shots. Kent Patterson rejected 25 shots on goal for the Cutthroats. Denver registered one goal on seven power play opportunities.
