The Wichita Thunder were firing on all cylinders against the Allen Americans, and when the final buzzer sounded Thunder emerged with a 5-1 win.

Wichita was led by goalie Grant Rollheiser, who finished with 27 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Rollheiser will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 1.96.

The Thunder's penalty kill excelled, as Wichita gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

The Thunder forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 17.0 minutes per game Wichita had been spending in the box. The Thunder stifled Allen's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Wichita's offense was clicking better than usual and put 36 shots on goal during the game, better than the 27.1 shots per game it averages.

The Thunder were helped by RG Flath, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Flath scored 14:36 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wichita. Matt Summers picked up the assist. Wichita also got points from Chad Painchaud, who also had two goals and one assist and Neil Trimm, who also registered one goal and one assist. Ian Lowe also scored for Wichita. In addition, Wichita received assists from Jarred Mohr, Kevin Young, Nathan Lutz, and Andrew Martens, who each chipped in one.

The Americans stifled Wichita's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Allen could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Americans put an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game. Allen's offense rang up 32 shots on the Thunder's net.

The Americans were led by Jarret Lukin, who scored the team's only goal. Lukin scored 4:42 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Jamie Schaafsma assisted on the tally.

Wichita registered zero goals on four power play opportunities. Aaron Dell took the loss and made 26 saves before being replaced by Steve Silverthorn who made five saves. Allen ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
