Rapid City uses shootout to best Denver, 2-1 (2-0 SO)

Jesse Schultz scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and Rapid City picked up the extra point in a 2-1 (2-0 SO) win over the Denver Cutthroats.

The shootout lasted for seven attempts between the teams. In addition to the clincher, Rapid City got a shootout goal from Schultz.

Rapid City was led by goalie Tim Boron, who finished with 26 saves while allowing one goal. Boron certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.42 entering the contest.

Rapid City kept Denver's goalie busy throughout the game, and Kent Patterson made 31 saves on 33 shots.

Rapid City was helped by Winston Day Chief, who registered one goal. Day Chief scored on the power play 51 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-0 Rapid City. Kyle Peto assisted on the tally. In addition, Rapid City received assists from Schultz, who had one.

The Cutthroats were held below their usual level of production. Denver averages 3.1 goals per game. The Cutthroats' offense was clicking better than usual and put 27 shots on goal during the game, better than the 23.2 shots per game they average.

Denver was led by A.J. Gale, who scored the team's only goal. Gale scored 3:55 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Glenn Cacaro provided the assist.

Rapid City incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Cutthroats incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
