Rapid City uses shootout to best Tulsa, 4-3 (3-1 SO)

Jared Brown scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and Rapid City picked up the extra point in a 4-3 (3-1 SO) win over the Tulsa Oilers.

The two teams needed seven turns to complete the shootout. Tulsa's shootout goal was scored by Drew Fisher. Rapid City's other shootout goals were scored by Taggart Desmet and Brown.

Rapid City was paced by Jesse Schultz, who registered one goal and one assist. Schultz scored 18:53 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Brown provided the assist.

Rapid City was led by Schultz, who tallied one goal and one assist.

Penalties took their toll on Rapid City, as its penalty kill unit let in three power play goals. With 45 shots on target during the contest, Rapid City exceeded the 23.6 shots it averages per game this year.

Kyle Peto also scored for Rapid City. More assists for Rapid City came via Jamie VanderVeeken, who had two and Scott Wray and Jordan Behler, who contributed one a piece.

The defense for the Oilers played an important role offensively, racking up 15 shots on goal. By firing 32 shots on goal, Tulsa exceeded the 17.8 shots it averages per game this year.

The Oilers were led by Ryan Menei, who had two goals. Menei scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 8:50 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Tulsa had gotten the advantage when Rapid City's Desmet was sent off for hooking. Michel Beausoleil assisted on the tally. Menei's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Tulsa with 14:36 left in the third period. A tripping penalty on Jarrett Konkle had put the Oilers on the power play. Beausoleil picked up the assist. Tulsa also got a goal from Fisher as well. In addition, Tulsa received assists from Jeff Buvinow, who had two and Justin Fox and Sean Erickson, who each chipped in one.

Tim Boron made 29 saves for Rapid City on 32 shots. Rapid City incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Shane Madolora recorded 41 saves for Tulsa. The Oilers incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
