Rapid City falls to Allen in overtime, 3-2 (OT)

The Allen Americans pulled out a 3-2 (OT) overtime victory over Rapid City on a clutch goal by Jamie Schaafsma.

Rapid City could not complete its climb out of a two-goal hole. Allen made the score 2-0 on a goal by Darryl Bootland at 5:44 in the second period. Rapid City pulled to within 2-1 on a goal by Kyle Peto at 16:12 in the third period.

The Americans pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 21 penalty minutes.

Allen stifled Rapid City's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The 34 shots that the Americans put on net surpassed Allen's average of 21.1 shots per game this season.

Allen also got a goal from Kale Kerbashian as well. More assists for Allen came via Tyler Ludwig, Jason Deitsch, and Trevor Ludwig, who contributed one a piece.

Rapid City was often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. Rapid City had been averaging 17.0 minutes in penalties per game. Rapid City excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. With 32 shots on target during the contest, Rapid City exceeded the 26.4 shots it averages per game this year.

Rapid City was helped by Rusty Masters, who had one goal. Masters scored 18:08 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Jared Brown assisted on the tally. In addition, Rapid City received assists from Justin Faryna, Jordan Behler, and Jesse Schultz, who each chipped in one.

The Americans' Aaron Dell stopped 30 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Tim Boron rejected 31 shots on goal for Rapid City. Rapid City registered zero goals on six power play opportunities.
