Allen shrugs off penalties, upends Wichita, 2-1Allen Event Center Fri, Feb 22, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Allen Americans, which found themselves down a man often, weathered the Wichita Thunder's power play opportunities and emerged with a 2-1 victory. Allen was led by Jarret Lukin, who racked up one goal. Lukin scored 9:30 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Allen. Jim McKenzie assisted on the tally. The Americans put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Wichita to score on any of its seven power plays. By firing 25 shots on goal, Allen exceeded the 21.3 shots it averages per game this year. Allen also got a goal from Jamie Schaafsma as well. Other players who recorded assists for Allen were Chris Doyle, Anthony Maiani, and Kale Kerbashian, who contributed one a piece. The Thunder's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Allen power plays. Wichita's offense operated below it season average. The Thunder average 3.5 goals per game. Wichita relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Neil Trimm, Andrew Martens and Les Reaney took 13 of the team's 23 shots. More assists for Wichita came via Ian Lowe, who had one. Steve Silverthorn made 22 saves for the Americans on 23 shots. Allen incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Grant Rollheiser recorded 23 saves for the Thunder. Wichita incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
