The Wichita Thunder gutted out a close 5-3 win against the Allen Americans. Wichita gained the winning advantage on a goal by RG Flath 8:03 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. The Thunder got the win with help from a great game by Ian Lowe, who had two goals and one assist. Lowe scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 6:00 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Allen. Wichita had gotten the advantage when Allen's Drew Daniels was sent off for cross checking. Matt Robinson provided the assist. Lowe's next tally on the power play made the score 2-2 with 13:31 left in the second period. Neil Trimm assisted on the tally. With 30 shots on target during the contest, the Thunder exceeded the 24.8 shots they average per game this year. Wichita could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game. Wichita additionally got points from Chad Painchaud, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Robinson, who also had one goal and one assist. More assists for Wichita came via Matt Summers, Jarred Mohr, Travis Wight, Kevin Young, and Andrew Martens, who contributed one a piece. The Americans struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 26 penalty minutes for four opposing power plays. Allen put 33 shots on net during the contest, more than the 22.5 it averages per game. The Americans were helped by Adam Pineault, who grabbed one goal. Pineault scored 2:21 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Allen. Jarret Lukin provided the assist. Allen also got a goal from Tyler Ludwig as well. Other players who recorded assists for Allen were Mike Montgomery, who had one and Anthony Maiani and Jamie Schaafsma, who contributed two a piece. The Thunder's starting goalie, Torrie Jung, made 22 saves and finished with the win before he was taken out in favor of Kevin Regan, who stopped eight shots. Aaron Dell made 25 saves for Allen on 29 shots. The Americans registered one goal on three power play opportunities.
