Wichita beats Denver 7-1 as Robinson gets hat trick

The Denver Cutthroats could not stop the Wichita Thunder's Matt Robinson, who tallied a hat trick in a 7-1 win.

Robinson notched his first tally 9:04 into the first period. He then added goals at 12:38 into the second and at 8:17 into the third.

Wichita's goal total was higher than its season average. The Thunder average 3.5 goals per game. Wichita cashed in on power play opportunities, scoring three goals on five chances. The Thunder's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Wichita also got points from Ian Lowe, who also registered one goal and one assist. Gregor Hanson also scored for Wichita. More assists for Wichita came via David Inman, who had two, RG Flath, Travis Wight, and Kevin Young, who contributed one a piece, and Matt Summers and Neil Trimm, who each chipped in three.

Denver relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as A.J. Gale, Troy Schwab and Brad Smyth took 11 of the team's 18 shots.

Wichita's Torrie Jung stopped 17 shots out of the 18 that he faced. The Thunder ended with 12 minutes in penalty time with one minor and two majors. Kieran Millan took the loss and made 16 saves before being replaced by Kent Patterson who made five saves. The Cutthroats totaled 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 0-for-1 on the power play.
