The Wichita Thunder had a six-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-0 win over the Denver Cutthroats.

RG Flath had two goals and two assists to lead Wichita. Flath scored the first of his two goals at 8:56 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Wichita. Gregor Hanson picked up the assist. Flath's next tally made the score 7-0 Wichita with 13:01 left in the third period. Hanson provided the assist.

Denver's power play was ineffective against the Thunder's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Wichita racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and three majors for 41 minutes in penalty time. The Thunder had been averaging 17.0 minutes in penalties per game. Wichita stifled the Cutthroats' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Thunder was steadier on the defensive front than they have been for much of this season. Wichita allows 2.5 goals per game. The Thunder outdid their season average for goals scored. Wichita averages 3.5 goals per game.

Wichita additionally got points from Hanson, who also had three goals and two assists to lead the team in points and Ian Lowe, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Wichita also got a goal from Matt Robinson as well. In addition, Wichita received assists from Neil Trimm, who had two and David Inman, Matt Summers, Jarred Mohr, Travis Wight, Kevin Young, Nathan Lutz, and Andrew Martens, who each chipped in one.

Denver was often in penalty trouble, totaling four minors and three majors for 33 minutes in penalty time. The Cutthroats surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. Denver could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Cutthroats average 3.0 goals per game. Denver relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as A.J. Gale, Troy Schwab and Luke Fulghum took 12 of the team's 21 shots.

The Thunder's Torrie Jung stopped 21 shots out of the 21 that he faced. Wichita registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. The Cutthroats' starting goalie, Kent Patterson, made nine saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Kieran Millan, who stopped 11 shots.
