The Arizona Sundogs and the Quad City Mallards both failed to score in overtime, but Arizona won the game 3-2 (2-1 SO) after Derek LeBlanc's deciding goal in the shootout. The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Quad City got a shootout goal from Anthony Perdicaro. In addition to the clincher, the Sundogs got a shootout goal from Jake Hauswirth.Arizona came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Sundogs trailed 2-1 after a goal by the Mallards' Mike Hellyer at 12:18 in the third period. Arizona knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Jason Morgan at 14:11 in the third period. The Sundogs relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Hauswirth, LeBlanc and Ron Meyers took 18 of the team's 35 shots. Arizona could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 20 minutes in penalties during the game. The Sundogs were led by LeBlanc, who dished out two assists. Quad City put 36 shots on net during the contest, more than the 23.5 it averages per game. The Mallards found themselves short handed often, totaling 20 penalty minutes and allowing four power plays. Matt Duffy also scored for Quad City. More assists for Quad City came via Michael Monfredo, Mike Stinziani, Perdicaro, and Shayne Toporowski, who each chipped in one. David Brown made 34 saves for Arizona on 36 shots. Quad City's John Murray stopped 32 shots out of the 34 that he faced. The Mallards registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
