The Wichita Thunder survived a determined comeback attempt by the Tulsa Oilers on the way to a 5-4 win.

A goal by Gregor Hanson put Wichita up 5-3 in the second period, but Tulsa pulled to within one on Sean Erickson's tally 41 seconds into the third period.

RG Flath had two goals and one assist to lead the Thunder. Flath scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 10:52 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Wichita earned a power play opportunity when Jeff Buvinow was put in the box for cross checking. Andrew Martens assisted on the tally. Flath's next tally on the power play made the score 3-3 with 12:57 left in the second period. Travis Wight picked up the assist.

By firing 41 shots on goal, the Thunder exceeded the 26.5 shots they average per game this year.

Wichita additionally got points from Neil Trimm, who also registered one goal and one assist and Martens, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. More assists for Wichita came via Matt Summers, who had two and Ian Lowe, Kevin Young, and Matt Robinson, who contributed one a piece.

With 27 shots on target during the contest, the Oilers exceeded the 19.8 shots they average per game this year. Tulsa had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on nine chances. The Oilers relied heavily on their defensemen to assist their forwards, and the blueliners responded by scoring four goals on 12 shots. Tulsa's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Oilers finished with 18 penalty minutes.

Tulsa was led by Drew Fisher, who tallied three goals. Tulsa also got points from Erickson, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Tulsa received assists from Ben Gordon, who had two and Gio Flamminio, Kyle Mariani, Tyler Fleck, and Patrick Schafer, who each chipped in one.

Torrie Jung recorded 23 saves for Wichita. The Thunder incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Oilers' starting goalie, Dan Clarke, made 17 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Shane Madolora, who stopped 19 shots.
