Denver beats Arizona 3-2 after comeback scare

The Arizona Sundogs tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Denver Cutthroats would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

Denver took a 2-0 lead during the first period, only to have Arizona storm back on a Adam Smyth goal 6:59 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Cutthroats were sparked by Troy Schwab, who finished with one goal and one assist. Schwab scored 14:00 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Denver. Brad Smyth provided the assist.

Luke Fulghum also scored for Denver. In addition, Denver received assists from Sean Zimmerman, Jamie MacQueen, and Ben Wilson, who contributed one a piece.

The Sundogs were led by Cody Purves, who racked up one goal and one assist. Purves scored 12:53 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Jake Hauswirth picked up the assist. More assists for Arizona came via Karl Linden and Pascal Morency, who each chipped in one.

Kent Patterson made 19 saves for Denver on 21 shots. The Cutthroats incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Arizona's David Brown stopped 19 shots out of the 22 that he faced. The Sundogs incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
