GAME RECAP

Turnbull leads Missouri over Quad City, 3-1

i-wireless Center    Sat, Dec 01, 2012

The Missouri Mavericks' Podge Turnbull had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 3-1 win over the Quad City Mallards.

Turnbull scored at 14:09 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Missouri and again while 15:14 into the third to make the score 3-1 Missouri.

Quad City was stymied by Missouri netminder Mike Clemente, who stopped 26 shots during the victory. The solid play of Clemente will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.31.

The Mallards' power play was ineffective against the Mavericks' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Missouri put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Quad City to score on any of its eight power plays. The 26 shots that the Mavericks put on net surpassed Missouri's average of 21.3 shots per game this season.

Missouri also got points from John-Scott Dickson, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Missouri were Evan Vossen, Blake Forsyth, Andrew Courtney, and Sebastien Thinel, who each chipped in one.

The Mallards' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Missouri power plays.

Quad City was led by Mike Stinziani, who scored the team's only goal. Stinziani scored 16:34 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Missouri. Matt Boyd picked up the assist.

The Mavericks incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. John Murray recorded 23 saves for the Mallards. Quad City incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
