The Wichita Thunder had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the Bloomington Blaze.

Les Reaney had two goals and one assist to lead Wichita. Reaney scored the first of his two goals at 10:52 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Wichita. David Inman provided the assist. Reaney's next tally made the score 4-1 Wichita with 17:10 left in the third period. Erick Lizon picked up the assist.

The Thunder relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Gregor Hanson, RG Flath and Ryan Flanigan took 19 of the team's 36 shots.

Wichita also got a goal from Ian Lowe as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wichita were Jon Madden, Travis Wight, Kevin Young, and Nathan Lutz, who each chipped in one.

The Bloomington penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game the Blaze had been spending in the box. Bloomington failed to reach its usual level of shot production, putting 25 pucks on goal after averaging 32.0 shots per game this season. The Blaze's offense operated below they season average. Bloomington puts an average of 4.2 pucks into the net per game.

The Blaze were led by David Gilbert, who scored the team's only goal. Gilbert scored 12:08 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wichita. Charlie Townsend assisted on the tally.

Wichita's Kevin Regan stopped 24 shots out of the 25 that he faced. The Thunder totaled 26 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Wichita ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Lizon was ejected from the game. Gerry Festa rejected 31 shots on goal for Bloomington. The Blaze registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
