Tims Toyota Center    Wed, Nov 21, 2012

The Arizona Sundogs and the Allen Americans both failed to score in overtime, but Arizona won the game 3-2 (2-1 SO) after David Schlemko's deciding goal in the shootout.

The shootout lasted for 10 attempts between the teams. Allen's shootout goal was scored by Brett Skinner. The Sundogs also got a shootout goal from Jason Morgan.

Arizona came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Sundogs trailed 2-1 after a power play goal by the Americans' Brian McMillin at 6:19 in the second period. Arizona knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Morgan at 14:41 in the third period.

The Sundogs' penalty kill excelled, as Arizona gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

The Sundogs were often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. Arizona had been averaging 16.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Sundogs were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to one goal off of 10 man advantages. The Sundogs were helped by Derek LeBlanc, who had one goal. LeBlanc scored on the power play 2:15 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Arizona had gotten the advantage when Allen's Kip Brennan was sent off for roughing. Schlemko assisted on the tally. Other players who recorded assists for Arizona were Gord Burnett, Jake Hauswirth, and Chad Langlais, who each chipped in one.

The Americans forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and two majors for 44 minutes in penalty time. Allen surpassed its season average of 24.0 penalty minutes per game. The Americans' defensemen bolstered Allen's offensive attack, as they bombarded David Brown with 14 shots.

The Americans were helped by Adam Pineault, who grabbed one goal. Pineault scored short handed 17:27 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Allen. Allen played down a man on Tyler Ludwig's slashing. More assists for Allen came via Jason Deitsch and Jarret Lukin, who contributed one a piece.
