Behind a great game by Brett Robinson, who had two goals, the Quad City Mallards defeated the Wichita Thunder, 3-1. Robinson's tallies came at 3:27 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Quad City and 16:12 into the second to make the score 2-1 Quad City.Quad City was led by goalie John Murray, who finished with 31 saves while allowing one goal. Murray managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.71 prior to the game. The Mallards' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Wichita power plays. Quad City also got a goal from Mike Hellyer as well. More assists for Quad City came via Mickey Lang and Matt Duffy, who each chipped in one and Mike Stinziani and Patrik Levesque, who contributed two a piece. Wichita excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The Thunder were held below their usual level of production. Wichita averages 3.8 goals per game. The Thunder's offense rang up 32 shots on Quad City's net. Wichita was led by Gregor Hanson, who scored the team's only goal. Hanson scored 9:40 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Matt Summers picked up the assist. The Mallards incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Kevin Regan rejected 22 shots on goal for the Thunder. Wichita incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
